Lizzy and I were watching an episode of Justice League the other night. We’ve graduated from the 70’s Superfriends cartoons into the more mature, serious stories from this decade.
Superman was fighting the evil Mongul, ruler of Warworld. Mongul was doing something particularly heinous, and Lizzy said to me “I h-word him”.
In a conspiratorial whisper, she said “it means ‘hate'”.
Not knowing quite what to say, I paused for a moment and then replied with something that was pretty corny, but seemed appropriate for her age. “You really shouldn’t have hate in your heart.”
Which might be the most hypocritical thing I’ve said as a parent to-date.
